ARD and ZDF on holiday in the EU
ARD and ZDF. If you live in Germany, the EU portability rule lets your paid subscriptions travel with you to other member states at no extra cost. Free, fee-funded media libraries such as ARD’s and ZDF’s fall outside that rule, says the European Consumer Centre Germany, so they can keep blocking programmes while you’re away. A German address gets around that, unless the library spots it as a data-centre IP.
Frankfurt. Valve hosts German matches in Frankfurt. Pick Germany when you queue with friends there. The games page explains what decides your ping.
Picking Germany
Open Search and type “Germ”, which leaves a single tile. Tap Germany, and once Connected to Germany shows at the top, ARD and ZDF get a German address.
Matches across Europe
Is Germany the right tile for every European match?
Not always. Valve also runs sites in Amsterdam, Vienna, Warsaw, Paris, Madrid, London and Stockholm. Pick the country closest to the people you play with. The Netherlands, Austria, Poland and the rest are all in the Bebra grid.
