A Japanese IP address
Living abroad cuts you off from radiko, which plays only inside Japan. In the EEA or the UK most of Yahoo! JAPAN is off as well, and has been since April 2022.

Japanese services that check where you are
Yahoo! JAPAN. Yahoo! JAPAN stopped serving the European Economic Area and the UK at 11 a.m. Japan time on 6 April 2022. Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Card and ebookjapan stayed, Mail with some features cut, and the rest went dark. Yahoo says other countries, the US for example, aren’t affected, so any address outside the EEA and the UK will do.
radiko. radiko carries Japan’s radio stations online, and according to its help pages it can’t be used from abroad. A Japanese IP gets you in, though radiko may still recognise a data-centre address, as video services do, and ask for the VPN to be switched off.
Japan via Search
Favorites saves you the typing. Connect to Japan twice within a month and its tile appears there by itself. The first time, search for “Jap” and tap Japan, the only match.
Yahoo! JAPAN on trips, radiko by area
I’m flying from Tokyo to Paris. What happens to Yahoo! JAPAN?
Once you’re online in France, only Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Card and ebookjapan open, and Mail loses some features. Yahoo! JAPAN warns travellers about this and notes that monthly subscriptions such as Yahoo! Premium keep billing while you can’t use them. Connect Bebra to Japan, or to any tile outside the EEA and the UK, for the rest.
Can I choose which part of Japan radiko thinks I’m in?
Not through Bebra. There’s one Japan location, and radiko assigns the area itself, with that area’s stations free. To hear stations from all over Japan, subscribe to radiko Premium on the Area Free or Double plan.
