VPN setup on a Tenda router

Tenda routers reach Bebra’s servers over PPTP, set up under the PPTP/L2TP Client menu item. You’ll need three things from your Bebra dashboard: a server IP, a login and a password.

Updated

Path to the client

AC6
VPN in the left menu → PPTP/L2TP Client
RX12 Pro
More → Network Settings → VPN
AX12 Pro, RX12L Pro and others
Look for PPTP/L2TP Client in the VPN section. If it’s there, the steps are the same

From blank form to Connected

  1. Get the login and a server IP

Click Get router settings under Router → Other routers in your Bebra dashboard, and a login, a password and a server list appear. Copy the IP of a server in the country you want to appear from. The login starts working in about two minutes.

  2. Open PPTP/L2TP Client

Open the Tenda panel at tendawifi.com or 192.168.0.1, find the client using the table above and switch it on.

  3. Fill in the form

Set Client Type to PPTP, paste the IP into the server address field, and fill User Name and Password with the credentials your dashboard shows. If the form has an MPPE Encryption switch, turn it on. Click Connect and wait for Connected.

PPTP and your provider

Bebra’s dashboard issues two protocols for routers, PPTP and OpenVPN, and Tenda firmware only handles PPTP. The AC6 and RX12 Pro manuals describe a PPTP/L2TP client and no OpenVPN client.

PPTP gives weaker protection than OpenVPN, and some internet providers don’t let it through. The trial comes with a router login, so you can check your provider on it before you pick a full plan. If no server will connect, install Bebra on the devices themselves or plug a second router running our app into the Tenda.

Tenda questions

How can I tell the Tenda is connected?

The form shows Connected. To check that traffic really goes through Bebra, join the Tenda’s Wi-Fi on your phone and open any IP lookup site. It should show the country of the server you chose.

How do I change country?

Click Disconnect, swap the IP in the form for a server in another country and click Connect again. Every server takes the same login and password.

The form mentions L2TP, but I chose PPTP

That’s how Tenda firmware labels the tunnel address line, Obtained L2TP Client IP Address, in either mode.
